Subject: [*] AutoDoubler 2.0.2 Patcher
Sept 8, 1993
Welcome!
This program patches the following items:
% AutoDoubler* 2.0 and 2.0.1 (now version 2.0.2)
% AutoDoubler* 2.0i and 2.0.1i international versions (now version 2.0.2i)
% AutoDoubler* 2.0.1P MacPak version (now version 2.0.2P)
This patching program will automatically patch the installed copy of
AutoDoubler
if it can be located. To patch a specific copy of a file, hold down the
option key while clicking the "Patch" button. If you are patching the
installed
version (the default), you must restart your Macintosh after the patching
process is finished for the changes to take effect.
Note: This patcher patches ONLY AutoDoubler. If you are running AutoDoubler
version 2.0.x, then you should also get the CopyDoubler Lite 2.0.1 patcher,
which contains patches for upgrading CopyDoubler 1.0.x to version 2.0.1
Lite.
AutoDoubler 2.0.2 New Features:
% Documents can now be excluded from automatic compression by type and
creator.
To exclude a document by its kind, click the RDonUt CompressIS button in
the AutoDoubler control panel and then click the RAdd Kind To ListIS button
in the exclusion dialog.
% Excluded files can now be moved to different folders under System 7.0
and later. Previously, if a file was added to AutoDoublerUs excluded items
list and subsequently moved to a different folder, AutoDoubler was unable
to find the file. This limitation does not apply to folders, which can be
freely moved under all system versions.
% Under System 7.x, items without a label (RNoneS in the Label menu) can
now be excluded from compression.
% A single checkbox has been added to the main AutoDoubler control panel
window to enable/disable automatic compression. This makes it easier to
turn on or off all background compression without having to change the setting
for each individual disk. This does not affect automatic expansion of files,
which cannot be disabled from the AutoDoubler control panel.
% The On/Off RswitchS has been removed from the AutoDoubler control panel.
To turn off AutoDoubler, use an INIT manager to disable it or remove the
control panel file from the Control Panels folder (System Folder under System
6.0.x).
AutoDoubler 2.0.2 Changes/Fixes:
% Retrospect 2.0 and Retrospect Remote have been added to AutoDoubler internal
backup program list. The RBackup Programs Backup In Compressed FormS option
in the Preferences dialog will now work properly for these programs.
% Fixed a Timbuktu problem where sending compressed files to a remote machine
could cause Timbuktu to lose the connection.
% AutoDoubler will no longer show CD-ROM and WORM drives in the main control
panelUs volume list.
% AutoDoubler will now properly monitor serial port activity in those
communications
programs which use the Communications Toolbox.
% AutoDoubler will now preserve folder modification dates when compressing
files at idle time.
% Putting the cursor in AutoDoublerUs RCompress NowS corner of the screen
will now work immediately after the Mac has started up. Previously, there
was a delay of up to 30 seconds before AutoDoubler would start compressing
files.
% Worked around a problem in MPW which would cause problems whenever
AutoDoubler
was animating the cursor while expanding a file.
% AutoDoubler no longer has to be loaded last when using some INIT/Control
Panel management utilities.

Glidel 2.0, September 8, 1993
by Gilles Berkovitch <GB136@calvacom.fr>
*** WHAT ***
Glidel is a freeware system extension to Drag-and-Drop icons on
the Finder's Menu Items (that works only with System 7).
*** HOW ***
1/ The action performed depends on where you drag-and-drop a selection to:
-- The Apple Menu Icon: move the selection to the "Apple Menu Items" folder.
A Folder or Application in the Apple Menu: same action performed as would
do
drag-and-dropping the selected file on the folder's or application's
icon.
-- An Item in the File Menu: same as selecting the file in the finder
then choosing a File Menu Item.
-- The Application Menu Icon: move the selection to the "System" folder.
An Item in the Application Menu: same action performed as would do
drag-and-dropping the selected file on the application's icon.
2/ Glidel works well with most hierarchical menus and with most menu creating
utilities.
3/ If one press the Option or Control key when drag-and-dropping,
a "Duplicate" or an "Alias" of the file will be moved or opened.
*** CHANGES AND NOTE ***
-- Glidel 2.0: Cursor change when using Glidel, Alias creation,
Compatibility with (most) hierarchical menus utilities.

This Compactor Pro archive contains GL Viewer 1.1.1, a THINK C port of
glib (from the xgrasp 1.7 distribution), THINK C sources, GL
documentation, and a sample GL library. This distribution completely
replaces the 1.1 distribution. Please note that GL Viewer was built
presupposing a 68020, a 68881, and 32-bit QuickDraw, and that it works
best with an 8-bit color monitor.
Most of this work is derived from software copyright (c) 1991 by
Patrick J. Naughton.
Although I have only added -- and not removed -- functionality to
these programs, I am interested in obtaining any file that causes GL
Viewer to crash your system. (N.b.: this release fixes all the known
pathological problems in 1.0. ...So get your returns in early!)

GradeBook 1.4
Written by Rex Evans using THINK Pascal 5.0
GradeBook is written for school teachers to track a class of students. The
three basic functions of the program are to record assignments and grades,
compute student grades, and produce reports. A spreadsheet is used as the
primary method of entering and maintaining data. The objective was to make
the spreadsheet look much like the ones used in typical grade books. I have
attempted to make the interface as friendly as possible and hope it is
intuitive.

The enclosed stuffed binhexed file is Mike Samuel's drag-and-drop icon
editor Icon Wizard. This app was reviewed in David Pogue's MacWorld
column a couple of months ago and was rated the best icon editing program
around for its value and feature list. I noticed that it wasn't at the
sumex archive, so I thought I'd pass it along. Note that I am not the author,
just thought it would make a fitting addition to the archive. The package
consists of an application and an init. The program works by having an
icon dropped on it, whereupon an extended get info window pops up with
some buttons that allow you to edit, change etc, the existing icon. I
noticed that the extension seems to be incompatible with Radius'
RadiusWare control Panel (which is a pity for me), but other than that it
looks
like a nifty little utility.

window shenanigans that MultiFinder plays. Given these two beasts, I was
able to write an AppleScript addition which returns a list of all the files
selected in the Finder!
So much for the biggest need for the scriptable Finder.
In addition, I've got 13 other commands included with this command, making
Jon's Commands the premiere Scripting Addition on the planet. If you're
doing AppleScript, you have to have this puppy. Be sure to mention my name
prominently whenever you praise this functionality though. ;)
Here's a blurb from the read me, which I encourage you to read.

Jotto is a simple word game based on logic and frustration.
The computer will pick a five-letter word from a 2000+ word
database, and you have 15 tries to guess it. You will get
feedback on how many letters in your guess are in the actual
word, but beware: each guess must be a valid five-letter word,
or you will not get any feedback about it at all.
Jotto 1.1.1 is a minor revision which fixes a problem on 68000

this problem, saved games that were saved with earlier versions of
Jotto are not compatible with this version. Sorry about that, and

Enclosed is the latest version of Launch applications. A simple Application
and control panel launcher for System seven. You scan your hard disk
and it finds all your applications and control panels and displays then in a
list. This make it easy to launch programs without having to
dig through all those finder windows.
New to this version:
* Double Click in the list to launch a program.
* Enter or Return key will also launch the selected program.
* Type the name of the prrogram and the will become hilighted. (this works
now)
* Up and down arrow keys wrap around now. (oh cool just like windows stuff)
* Shows the number of items in the list.
* Show the Disk name of where the file resides.
Holding down the option key will change three features.
Rescan button turns into Verify.
Verify will look through the list and update the dir id or the name
of the programs in case any of the information has changed. (ie
you renamed a program or moved it to another directory)
Launch button turn into Show Me.
Show me will open up the folder to show you where that selected file is.
Remove button becomes Delete...
This lets you delete the program from the disk.
Its still beta because some features still don't work the way I want them
to and I have more features to add. Let me know your suggestions.

shareware Macintosh e-mail program that can use both the Simple Mail

to send and receive mail. LeeMail requires MacTCP (or "TCP Connection

Major changes to LeeMail since 1.2.4 include:
More robust TCP/IP routines
Cool enclosure handling :-)
No 32K limit on reading or composing mail
Multi-user operation
POP3 support
and tons more!
LeeMail is shareware, $25. Group packages, site licenses and
source code licenses are available.
If you have any questions, feel free to mail me at "laf@mitre.org".

Subject: [*] LeeMail Alias Utility 1.0.1
This application converts a unix .mailrc-style text file into LeeMail
aliases and vice versa. It's useful for transferring aliases from a unix
machine to LeeMail, and for distributing text files of aliases to groups of
people.
Version 1.0.1 of this utility fixes a bug which placed a null terminator
('\0') at the end the last address in an alias. This caused the "X-Mailer"
line to be appended to the "To" line in e-mail headers when using LeeMail.
If you used version 1.0 of this utility, please update your aliases to
remove the problem described above by performing the following steps:
. Convert your LeeMail aliases to a text file
. Convert the text file back to the LeeMail aliases
This will correct the null-termination problem.
(small plug :-)
This submission is in anticipation of the release of LeeMail 2.0 which will
follow shortly.

This is a new version of the program MacAstro. It includes some new
important features like balloon help and 32-bits clean (see bellow a
description of the differences with the previous version).
If you don't know what is MacAstro, this is a small description of the
program :
MacAstro 1.6 is a program for astronomy lovers to calculate the
appearance of the sky at any time and any point on earth. It
displays the position of the 8 major planets, the Sun, the Moon, and
2500 brightest astronomical objects (stars and Messier's objects).
These are the main features of the program :
o Full Macintosh interface.
o Background calculations.
o Displays in color the position of the objects of the Solar System
(8 planets + Sun + Moon) and displays the position of the 2500
brightest stars in the sky, according to the date and place
of the observation.
o Displays the constellations.
o Displays the ephemeris of any of the 2510 objects :
- rising/setting/culmination,
- right ascension/declination,
- azimuth/altitude,
- visual magnitude and diameter,
and allows to save it to a text file for the planets, the Sun and
the Moon.
o Displays and exports a picture of the phase of the Moon.
o Displays and exports a picture of Jupiter and Saturn's satellites
position.
o Displays the sidereal time.
o "Planetarium" mode : an animation refreshes regularly the appearance
of the sky (can turn in background under MultiFinder).
o Editable list of most commonly used places of observation, and
possibility to use the location coordinates stored in the PRAM.
o Balloon help.
o Requires a Macintosh Plus, Classic, or larger and a system 6.0 or
later.
Differences between the versions 1.6 and 1.5 of MacAstro :
o 32 bits clean,
o Balloon help,
o Possibility to set the time zone to non-integer hours (for special
zones with a difference of half an hour),
o A little bit more APPLE compliant,
o Enhanced controls,
o Correction of various bugs,
o New format of the documentation.

***From the README file:***
Changes from 1.23:
* New, underlying socket library. This, plus some other
modifications, have increased download capability by ~2x.
* Removes Color QuickDraw dependencies. MacWAIS now runs on
Classic QuickDraw Systems (PB100, SE, etc.). (Reported by
Sami.Tikka@hut.fi, Kent Kalnasy (kkalnasy@bvu-lads.loral.com), and
Jonathan Brecher (brecher@mac.archive.umich.edu). Thanks for the
reports -- sorry for the incompability!)
* Allows searching of Local sources. (Note: Local sources can
ONLY be specified by manually editing the Source description. The
host":ip-name" line should be removed, and the ":database-name"
should be the Macintosh pathname to the index file. This will
ultimately become specifiable directly in MacWAIS.)
* In the Select Sources dialog, Selected Sources may be deselected
by first highlighting them and then pressing Delete. (The
documentation has been updated to reflect this addition.) (Suggested
by Harry Morris (morris@wais.com).)
* Miscellaneous shortcuts added to dialogs (e.g., cmd-D means
"Don't Save").

numbers. This feature is very important for a children's math program and
was not available with the old MacinTalk. Best of all, unlike the
original MacinTalk, Speech Manager is compatible with all the new Macs!
The Ultimate Math Machine includes many custom features that make it a
teacher's best friend. You control the factor range so you can tailor it
to your student's needs. It offers multiple choice mode or blind typing
entry. For example: there are 12 possible answer's to any giving times'
table. Let us look at the Five Table.
5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60
Each multiple of 5, is a multiple choice button. By having the
multiples in front of the students, rather then having to pick them out of
a hat, they can maximize their learning efforts and have fun. This
concept forces a child to see the natural patterns in numbers. Shortly
after this, teachers can disable multiple choice mode and have the
children blind type the answers in. You will be amazed to see how fast
they learn the tables.
This concept has been applied to addition, subtraction,
multiplication and division as well. By working with number patterns,
children naturally assimilate the more abstract concepts of division and
subtraction. The only requirement for this program is that children know
the numbers up to ten. The Ultimate Math Machine, is universally
adjustable to the student's level.
This program is a powerful learning tool and a source of
tremendous fun for kids. Each response is greeted with a comical little
epithet and quick little tune! It even makes adults laugh. It also uses
sparkling color graphics to captivate children's imagination. Children
might have to compete with their parents to get a chance to play!
This program is Shareware and requires a $15.00 registration fee.
When I receive your payment I will E mail or sent the key to unlock the
whole program. I will also send you a demo disk with several other
programs!

Subject: [*] tiny-saver.hqx
Tiny Saver is a very small screen saver. It does just what a
screen saver is supposed to do and not much else. It is an
application so no conflicts but it only uses about 30k of RAM
18 of disk space. This version is a 'background only appliation'
so it only uses 12k of RAM when it is in not actually saving the
screen. Being a FBA it will not show up in the application
menu and won't always end up in your face when you quit other
applications. It is a nifty (IMHO) blend of the features of
a system extension with the reliability of an application.
I have added the following features:
"Puzzle" will cut the screen into blocks and move them ala Puzzle DA
"Melt" will cause the screen to slowly melt until it is all black
"Show Picts" will display any "PICTS" you put in the Tiny Saver Folder
None of these options require any more dedicated memory, see docs for
details.

Subject: [*] TrashMan 4.0.5
Here is the latest version of TrashMan, the most popular trash utility in
this arm of the Milky Way. This version is now fully compatible with
System 7 Pro and AppleScript.
In addition, TrashMan is now PowerBook friendly! I have discovered a way to
determine when the disk is spinning in a PowerBook, so now TrashMan will
_not_ spin up the disk. This allows PowerBooks to go to sleep properly,
and doesn't waste valuable battery juice.
Thank you for your support!

Subject: [*] Update to "Simpson Icons" file
September 13, 1993
To the Info-Mac folks:
I wanted to thank you for posting my file so quickly. I have certainly
gotten some responses. In fact, that is why I'm writing today. I was
informed that a few of the icons didn't make it during downloading, and I
found a few other things to correct as well, so I am sending you another
"Simpson Icons" file to put in place of the origina (again in the
mac/gui/grf directory) l. The corrections have been made in this one. I am
not broadcasting this as an update because I don't want to make people have
to download the entire thing again; so in the second collection that I will
upload in another few months, I will include the few icons I made
corrections on, so that folks who got the first version of the first
collection will get the updates as well.
If there's any difficulty with this, please let me know, and I will be glad
to go whatever further steps are needed. Thank you for your time.

Subject: [*] VoiceDemo 1.0.1
Here is an update to Voice Demo.
As well as being much cooler, this version fixes a bug VoiceDemo was
having with the Plaintalk(tm) voices. VoiceDemo needs the Speech Manager to
work. (It's available at ftp.apple.com)
VoiceDemo is a cute little hack which lets you test out ALL of the
Speech Manager's different voices, PlainTalk or regular. It's small because
it's all C code, and I didn't waste your time or mine including source code
or program snippets. It IS very cool, and free, so give it a try!

Subject: [*] Zipple 1.7 - control panel/extension
This is the latest version of Zipple, 1.7.
Zipple is a control panel and extension for System 7 that
allows you to replace the title of your Apple, Balloon Help,
and/or Application menus with animated images. You can use
the ready-made images that come with Zipple, or create your
own with the sophisticated editor in the control panel.
Changes in version 1.7:
* System 7 only (Sorry!)
* Can animate all three iconic menu titles
* Frame editor now supports clockwise rotation of frames (duh!)
* Small bug fixes and cosmetic fixes
This is a StuffIt 3.0 archive.
[Hey, moderator! Would it be possible to keep the last version,
1.6.1, around for those silly System 6 users?]
